Calorie Bar Diet, a premium wellness diet center, has released the results of a nationwide survey on perceptions of self-care among adults in Korea.

The findings show that more than three out of four adults strongly recognize the need for self-care, while one in three respondents expressed demand for structured wellness management through professional care centers.

The survey was conducted in response to the growing number of consumers committing to self-care at the start of the new year, with the aim of understanding consumer perceptions around healthy dieting and self-management. A total of 367 adult men and women aged 20 to 50 were surveyed on their self-care goals, key barriers, and preferred management methods.

When asked, “How necessary do you think self-care is in daily life?”, 74.6% of respondents answered “very necessary.” Including those who responded “somewhat necessary,” the vast majority of participants viewed self-care as an essential part of everyday life—indicating that self-care has become a universal value beyond age or gender.

Regarding the primary purpose of self-care, “overall wellness and health management” ranked first at 42.7%, followed by “weight management and dieting” at 32.2%, and “beauty-related goals such as maintaining a youthful appearance” at 14.3%. These results highlight a stronger interest in sustainable health rather than purely aesthetic outcomes.

On the other hand, respondents cited practical constraints as the main reasons for not practicing self-care consistently. “Busy daily routines due to childcare or work” (43.7%) and “financial burden” (42.2%) emerged as the top barriers, identifying time and cost as the most significant obstacles to self-care.

In terms of currently practiced self-care methods, respondents most frequently selected inner beauty and health supplements (32.3%), followed by exercise such as running or home training (30.1%), home health and beauty devices (27.9%), and visits to dermatology clinics or professional medical facilities (9.7%). Overall, accessible, self-directed care methods dominated current behavior.

However, when asked about “self-care methods they would like to try if circumstances allowed,” visiting professional care centers ranked highest at 33.0%, followed by dietary or eating habit improvements (31.9%) and physical fitness management through regular exercise (19.7%). This indicates strong latent demand for expert-led, structured wellness services.

A representative from Calorie Bar Diet commented,

“This survey confirms that while awareness of the importance of self-care is high, many consumers struggle to put it into practice due to time and cost constraints. Through wellness programs based on professional body-shaping devices and one-on-one consultations, Calorie Bar Diet aims to provide sustainable self-care solutions that are more accessible in terms of both time and cost.”

Meanwhile, Calorie Bar Diet is a wellness diet center under The Future, offering healthy body-fat management solutions and a streamlined operational model. With more than 64 locations nationwide—the largest footprint in the industry, the brand continues to expand rapidly. Through its signature total-care diet device “Calorie Bar”—often referred to as the “Yellow Tube Diet”—and “Muscle Lander,” which uses electromagnetic stimulation to support skeletal muscle growth, Calorie Bar Diet promotes a sustainable and holistic approach to wellness and weight management.
